It was the UKHSA (the health security agency in the United Kingdom) which published the information on January 6. The first human case of bird flu in the UK has been found in the South West of the country.
The patient contracted the disease following being in close contact with birds at his home but did not transmit the virus following being infected.
The people with whom he might have been in contact were contacted and tested, no trace of the spread of the virus following this human contamination was observed.
The UKHSA estimates that the risk for the population is zero and the individual who contracted avian influenza was placed in isolation while receiving treatment.
The birds present at his home were all euthanized. Bird flu has hit England hard since December as half a million birds have already been euthanized to prevent the spread of the virus.
