Huíla records an increase in tuberculosis cases in children – Jornal OPaís

The province of Huíla is registering an increase in cases of tuberculosis in children and abandonment of treatment, a situation that worries local authorities, declared, this Sunday, in Lubango, the director of the Provincial Health Office, Paulo Luvangamo.

Speaking to ANGOP, on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, which today is marked under the motto, “Yes, we can end TB”, the source said, without providing comparative data, that in 2023 518 cases were reported, 232 of which which in children from zero to four years of age and 286 from five to 14 years of age.

In the same year, five thousand 934 new cases of tuberculosis were diagnosed in Huíla, 847 of which were cured, two thousand 319 with complete treatment. This disease is the seventh cause of death in the province, according to the director.

He highlighted that the high rate of abandonment of treatment for the disease will lead authorities to reinforce awareness-raising actions, with the involvement of resident committees
