Australian-born Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman (54) announced on the 3rd (local time) that he had undergone a biopsy following a recent health checkup suspected he had skin cancer.
Hugh Jackman said on his social media that the biopsy results would be available in a few days, and encouraged him to wear sunscreen.
Hugh Jackman already underwent surgery for skin cancer in 2013, and has had at least six more surgeries since.
According to a video posted by Hugh Jackman on social media, he heard from medical staff that he suspected skin cancer, and said, “It may or may not be basal cell carcinoma.”
Basal cell carcinoma, caused by excessive sun exposure and tanning, is a non-melanoma skin cancer. Therefore, unlike melanoma, which metastasizes well, it is a carcinoma that rarely metastasizes due to local invasion.
According to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), the success rate of non-black skin cancer treatment reaches 90%.
Hugh Jackman also reassured fans that “basal cell carcinoma is not the most dangerous of skin cancers,” and hoped that his situation would serve as an opportunity to remind them of the importance of blocking sunlight.
Hugh Jackman, who said, “Be sure to wear sunscreen,” said, “No matter how much you want to tan, it’s not worth it. Trust me!” he explained.
In fact, Australia is the most reported skin cancer region in the world, with more than 11,500 people diagnosed with melanoma each year, and an estimated 434,000 people treated for other skin cancers.
In 2015, Hugh Jackman told People magazine that he, as an Australian, was surprised to be diagnosed with cancer.
“Hearing the word ‘cancer’ is always a little shocking,” she says.
“As an Australian, skin cancer is very common. Growing up, I never wore sunscreen. So I was easily exposed to skin cancer.”
Born in Sydney, Australia, to immigrant parents from England, Hugh Jackman is best known for his role as ‘Wolverine’ in the ‘X-Men’ series.
In addition, he is also famous for the action horror film ‘Van Helsing (2004)’, the mystery sci-fi film ‘Prestige (2006)’ and the musical film ‘The Greatest Showman’ (2017).
