Hugh Jackman has a hidden gem in the Prime Video catalog: based on real events and with his best work as an actor – Movie News

More than two decades of bringing the character to life, and with a remarkable commitment and level, have led to the names of Hugh Jackman and Wolverine being inseparable. But occasionally he has surprised us with work outside his comfort zone that is interesting, although it also takes advantage of his remarkable charisma.

This was the case of Bad Education, one of the hidden gems in the Amazon Prime Video catalogue. Together with Allison Janney, she stars in this crime drama based on real events that went unjustly unnoticed, with Cory Finley doing a very notable exercise in intrigue and character drama.

In 2002, Dr. Frank Tassone is the superintendent of the Roslyn School District on Long Island, which oversees Roslyn High School. Frank, along with his deputy superintendent Pam Gluckin, have overseen significant improvements in the district, making it the 4th largest public school in the country. The school’s performance in turn stimulates the local economy. Frank is beloved by students and parents, and sought after by women.

While writing an article for the Roslyn school newspaper about a skywalk the school plans to build, student Rachel Bhargava begins to uncover discrepancies in the school district’s finances. Unbeknownst to anyone at the school, Frank and Pam are complicit in a massive embezzlement scheme, defrauding the school district of millions of dollars and perpetrating the largest school scandal in U.S. history.

The origins of the film date back more than a decade before it was produced, with then-high school student Mike Makowsky writing the script about the scandal involving his district superintendent. A script that initially wanted to paint him in a more villainous light, but which incorporated nuances when he spoke to people close to him.

‘Bad Education’: the public and the private

This does not mean that it tries to excuse or redeem him. The scam (Bad Education) is able to understand his position, but to show that he clearly maintained a public facade that did not correspond to what he tried to maintain in private. The film tells it with a lot of elegance and also forcefulness, with the best elements of traditional American cinema.

‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is a love letter to Hugh Jackman: “There’s nothing better than knowing you’re living in a dream”

Of course, it also features an extraordinary Jackman when it comes to selling you all the nuances of the character. The actor shines at times showing his undeniable charisma, but he also excels in aspects that other films have not claimed as much from him, such as his ability to internally explore what the protagonist experiences. It is one of his best works as an actor, and it is worth rescuing him this week where he returns with Deadpool and Wolverine.
