Huge scam by a Chinese fake e-shop network, how thousands of Europeans and Americans stepped on it

More than 800,000 people in Europe and USA it seems that they were duped and shared their card details and other sensitive personal data, through one huge network of e-shop stores based in China.

International research by the Guardian, Die Zeit and Le Monde newspapers looked at the mechanisms which the UK’s Chartered Trading Standards Institute described as one of the biggest scams of its kind of, with 76,000 fake e-shop websites created.

The data shows that the network is highly organizedtechnically sound – and still in development reports the Guardian. The rogue developers created tens of thousands of fake online stores which offer discount products from companies such as Dior, Nike, Lacoste, Hugo Boss, Versace and Prada, as well as many other well-known brands.

Meanwhile, the fact that there are languages from English to German, French, Spanish, Swedish and Italian available for users to choose on the sites does not indicate that it is a scam.

However, the websites, as it turned out, have nothing to do with the brands they claim to sell, and in most cases consumers who spoke about their experience said they did not receive any product.

The first fake e-shops of the network were created in 2015

In the past three years alone, more than 1 million “orders” have been processed, according to the data analysis.

According to the data so far, the fraudsters behind this network have reportedly tried to grab up to €50 million during this period. Many of these e-shops have gone down, but a third of them – more than 22,500 – are still operating.

An estimated 800,000 people, almost all of them in Europe and the US, have provided email addresses, while 476,000 of them have provided debit and credit card details, including their three-digit security number. All of them also gave their names, phone numbers, email and postal addresses to the fake network.
