The Hubert-André international cross has once once more exceeded the bar of 1,100 participants on the starting line, and seen the supremacy of Morocco in the Elite races.
Perfectly organized by the USC athletics, with a very large audience under a radiant sun, the day, strewn with 15 races, started with the mixed popular cross (3650m), won by the Albigensian Jean-Pierre Julien. The cross court (4400m) saw the victory of Luxembourger Gaspar Klukers, licensed in Toulouse.
In the Elite women, a race without the Kenyans excused at the last minute, Saadia Fadili and Fatiha Sanchez took charge of operations from the start of the race, ahead of the trio Clara Prévost, Claire Privat and Sophie Duarte. The two athletes will never be worried, racing in the lead from start to finish, the victory going to the Moroccan Saadia Fadili, satisfied for her first Hubert-André: “I didn’t know this cross, the site is superb, the course is a bit hard, very uneven, you have to run first with your eyes, then with your legs.” The silver medal went to Fatiha Sanchez, a great performance for the 40-year-old Algerian, who remained in two 2nd places in 2021 and 2022. Claire Privat (Vichy), took 3rd place ahead of Toulouse’s Sophie Duarte and her 42 years old.
In Elite men, Saïd Kaddour led the peloton followed closely by Josphat Kiprono Menjo, Saïd Mhaimer, Téo Dubuc, Mathieu Brulet and Corentin Capelier, the favorites were there. No change following the second loop, 2000 m run at a hell of a pace.
At the start of the first of the three large 2000m loops, Saïd Kaddour and Josphat Menjo decided to escape, leaving Mathieu Brulet 15 seconds behind and Saïd Mhaimer 20 seconds behind. The lone rider of the two friends would last until the finish line, with the victory of the Moroccan Saïd Kaddour, who won his first Hubert-André ahead of the Kenyan Josphat Menjo. After his 2nd place in 2018, Mathieu Brulet (St-Junien) this time takes the bronze medal.
