Daniel Huber prevailed with a crazy air show in the final World Cup competition of the winter in Planica. With the superior day’s victory, the Salzburg man also managed to outdo Stefan Kraft in the race for the small ball for the Ski Flying World Cup. The overall World Cup winner took fourth place, second was the Slovenian Domen Prevc ahead of the Pole Aleksander Zniszczol. Daniel Tschofenig came eleventh and Manuel Fettner twelfth.
Huber impressed in the first round with a jump of 247 m and thus virtually took the lead in the Special World Cup. Kraft was already fourth following the first part, Precv third and Zniszczol second. The Slovenian Timi Zajc, who would have had a small chance of winning the small ball, decided not to compete due to shoulder problems.
In the final, Kraft advanced with a jump to 239.5 m, Domen Prevc countered with 238 m and moved ahead of the Austrian. Second to last on the hill, Zniszczol sailed to second place with 237.5 m and pushed Kraft to third. Huber concluded the competition in spectacular style with a jump of 242.5 m. “It was a show of force,” Kraft said of his teammate.
Jan Hörl from the successful Austrian team was no longer at the start. After a great season of ski flying, he said he mightn’t get going anymore. “We may be out of steam a bit. But when it comes to ski flying you have to be 100% certain. That’s why I and the trainers decided to skip the last competition today.”
The Italian Giovanni Bresadola, who fell on Saturday following a flight of 226 m, will be out longer. An MR scan confirmed injuries to the left cruciate ligament and meniscus. “Surgery and a long summer await me,” Bresadola wrote on Instagram.
