Chinese tech giant Huawei wants to help Kenya scale up green energy adoption and accelerate low-carbon growth.

Victor Koyier, executive director of business development at Huawei Kenya, said the East African country has abundant sources of renewable energy such as solar, geothermal and wind power, which can be used to accelerate the transition to a green economy.

The Kenyan government is seeking to generate electricity through green energy and we have the technological solutions to support this program, Koyier remarked at the Huawei FusionSolar East Africa Partner Summit, which s was held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, last Friday.

Mr. Koyier noted that there is currently a huge demand in Kenya for the use of solar energy in the commercial and industrial sectors. “We have advanced energy storage systems that are alternatives to diesel-powered machinery,” Koyier said.

He revealed that Huawei also has energy solutions for households outside the national power grid. “We have solar-powered mini-grids that can provide households in remote areas with access to affordable electricity,” Koyier explained.

He added that Huawei is also supporting the training of students in green energy technologies to ensure that future generations in Kenya will find solutions that will enable the country to enhance climate change adaptation and mitigation.
