Huawei receives the highest security certification for smart device operating systems

DELFT, The Netherlands, April 17 /PRNewswire/ Huawei’s HongMeng kernel was awarded the industry’s first EAL6+ (Evaluation Assurance Level 6 Augmented) certificate under the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CC), the highest level of security achieved in the field of Universal Operating System (OS ) kernel is available. Huawei is the first smart device manufacturer in the world to receive this certification in this specific field.

Operating system kernels form the basis for the security and privacy of operating systems. The CC standard, also known as ISO/IEC 15408, is an information security certification that is among the most influential in the global IT industry. CC is a widely used and globally recognized standard for assessing product safety.

SGS Brightsight, a world-renowned security assessment laboratory, performed the security assessment for the HongMeng kernel. Mr. Kai-Fan Chang, COO Asia of SGS Brightsight, said, “SGS Brightsight, as the largest security assessment laboratory in the world, is honored to conduct the security assessment of Huawei’s HongMeng kernel to achieve the international Common Criteria EAL6+. The CC EAL6+ certificate represents a new level of industry recognition for Huawei’s cybersecurity. To date, Huawei has received more than 500 certifications under industry-recognized cybersecurity programs such as CC, FIPS, PCI DSS, and CSA STAR.
