Huawei introduced the Mate 50 Pro with a new scratch protection technology in its high-strength glass called “Kunlun Glass”. As a way to replace Corning’s solutions following the US trade sanctions, the product created by the Chinese had its durability put to the test by the channel PBKreviews no YouTube.
In a video published last week, the tester points out that the Mate 50 Pro is the first cell phone in the world with five stars awarded by SGS, a Swiss product testing and inspection company. Apparently, the orange color is the only option equipped with Kunlun Glass, so this is the model used for the review. Check it out below:
Despite its curved screen, the Mate 50 Pro did not show significant damage when dropped from waist height, that is, regarding 1 meter. It is worth remembering that, when falling from the same height, the Galaxy S23 Ultra had its display cracked despite the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Both cell phones, on the other hand, continued to function normally following the fall.
In a second round of testing, the Mate 50 Pro was dropped from much greater heights and impressed by remaining with the screen without significant damage. Even following being dropped from head height onto a concrete surface, the display did not crack. The metallic sides of the cell phone, on the other hand, were worn out.
Finally, the tester dropped the model with its rear facing the ground. When dropped from waist height, barely perceptible damage occurred to its cap. One of the small cracks that had formed on the screen following previous falls ended up expanding, but this did not affect the experience of using the cell phone, according to the presenter.
O PBKreviews recalls that the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra, both equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, suffered significant damage to their screens in their first drop from waist height, suggesting that Huawei’s new technology is capable of overcoming the resistance offered by Corning , which protects the front and back area of Samsung cell phones.
