At the beginning of October, Huawei launched its new TWS headset in Brazil. The FreeBuds SE 2 arrived in the country with the aim of delivering good value for money to the consumer.
What does this new accessory deliver to the user? Does it deliver what it promises? TudoCelular tested the product in recent weeks and details its characteristics in this complete analysis.
Design and construction
The FreeBuds SE 2 has a very different shape from its predecessor. The manufacturer has now placed a charging case in a rectangular shape with rounded edges, which prevents you from placing it upright. At least, the weight of 33 grams allows you to leave it in your pocket without any hassle.
The headphones feature a semi-in-ear layout. In other words, it has a protrusion that reaches the entrance to the ear canal, but without the silicone tips that go directly into the ear. This, combined with 3.8 grams on each side, allows for great comfort during prolonged use.
Each part has a rod that helps it fit into the ears and has a sensor on the back to allow customizable touch commands. At the bottom, there are the magnetic pins for charging and the microphones.
Their body and the case are shiny and smooth, both in the same color tone. The problem here is the slippery grip, which may require some care when handling it. But even so, it will be difficult for it to fall out of your ear during lighter physical activities. There is also IP54 certification, with protection once morest dust and sweat.
The charging case also has a USB-C port and an LED, the color of which varies between green and red, depending on the battery level available in both the headphones and the case – or white, when the accessory is in pairing mode.
The box only comes with the case, the headphones – which are already inside the case – and a small USB Type-C cable, in addition to the user guide. There is no plug adapter here, but you can use a standard charger.
Connectivity and app
The Huawei FreeBuds SE 2 comes equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 technology, to offer greater stability and reliability in the connection. It can be connected to mobile devices with fully supported Android, iOS and HarmonyOS systems, as well as PCs equipped with Windows system.
All management is done through the Huawei AI Life application, available for download through the brand’s official store, AppGallery. The tool allows you to check the battery status of each side individually and the case, in addition to checking for software updates.
The application also offers some special features for the headset. We’re talking regarding a dedicated equalizer, with four predefined settings according to your preference.
It is also possible to configure the gestures on each side, both with double tap and long tap. Additionally, there is an option to “Find headphones”, which emits sound waves within a radius of 20 meters, to find their location, if you don’t know where they are.
All resources are very simple to understand and use. There is no secret or difficulty in understanding where each functionality is available to the user. It’s a shame that this management isn’t available on computers either.
The possibility of connecting to more than one device at the same time was also missing. This would be an option to allow faster device switching, although this model does not require a new pairing – the mode of which is activated by touching the touch sensor on both sides for three seconds while placed in the case – for this alternation.
Sound and microphone quality
We come to the main part of the analysis: how does the FreeBuds SE 2 perform in terms of sound? As it is a more open type, don’t expect complete acoustic isolation when you put it in your ear. Even so, the product surprised with its good quality.
Huawei has put a 10mm dynamic driver in this model. Its power is not that high, but maximum volume does not distort frequencies or present significant audio leakage to anyone around.
At least there is a good balance of frequencies in it. The mids and highs are very clear and crisp, which makes for good vocal quality. The bass is not very full-bodied, but it is enough for a good experience and does not vibrate the speaker.
The equalization profiles available in the application do not generate a big change in the audio, but they provide a subtle and pleasant customization to make the sound more similar to your preference.
For calls, Huawei has placed a microphone at the bottom end of the stem of each. They have noise cancellation technology during the call. And in practice, we managed to have this good performance.
We’ve noticed that the voice comes through clearly on the other end on a call, without the person you’re talking to having any complaints regarding not hearing correctly. Furthermore, ambient noise is efficiently reduced, so as not to affect understanding with wind or other background sounds.
Battery
Huawei has inserted a 41 mAh battery into each earbud, in addition to a 510 mAh capacity in the case. The Chinese company also promises autonomy of up to 9 hours following a full charge, with 40 hours in total with the charging case.
In our continuous music playback tests, with a medium volume, we managed to reach exactly the 9 hours promised by the manufacturer with one charge, on one of the headphones, while the other – already alone – lasted another half hour and reached 9 hours and 30 minutes in total duration.
After all the headphones and case charges were exhausted, we carried out the charging test. We use the original USB-C cable with a 15W cell phone socket adapter.
In the experiments we carried out, it is possible to complete the process and reach 100% with the headphones and the charging case in less than two hours connected to the socket. A satisfactory time, due to the total autonomy delivered.

Final considerations
The Huawei FreeBuds SE 2 undoubtedly provides one of the best value for money experiences in the segment. The headset offers a lightweight, compact design and is dust and water resistant.
Connectivity is very stable, thanks to Bluetooth 5.3, while the Huawei AI Life application offers a very intuitive interface and is easy to manage the product, with support for the main mobile device systems, despite not being present in the official stores for Android and iOS .
The sound quality is surprising for its good quality, even without providing ideal acoustic isolation, due to its shape. The microphone also doesn’t disappoint and allows for very clear and crisp voice calls. Not to mention its battery, with great autonomy both in the handset and in the charging case.
The main negative points are the smooth finish, which might easily slip out of your hand, the lack of connection with more than one device simultaneously, and the power, which might be a little higher.

Huawei launched the FreeBuds SE 2 in Brazil for a suggested price of R$199. We believe this is a very acceptable cost for the product even at this launch on the national market.
Among the main competitors are the realme Buds T100 and the Redmi Buds 4 Active, with the same shape with stem and Bluetooth 5.3, but available for a starting price of R$ 299. The first has IPx5, with better protection once morest water, while the second brings IPx4. Both without dust resistance. But there is a silicone tip on both, for better acoustic insulation.
