Huawei held the European Leadership Academy Summer School for young female leaders for the fourth time last week.

Vienna (OTS) – Last week, top female talents of the future, global thought leaders, experts from various fields and inspiring professors gathered for the fourth edition of the “Schools for Female Leadership in the Digital Age”. The program was launched as part of Huawei’s European Leadership Academy (ELA). It aims to support young women in leading Europe into an inclusive, sustainable and digital future.

The participants were offered a varied program with numerous events such as master classes, debates and teamwork activities. It was regarding the central issues of our time: technology, equality, sustainability, economy, international relations, media and innovation. This year there was also a panel discussion on the role of men in promoting equality. There was also a focus on talent development in the areas of cloud and cyber security.

Talent is power, femininity is power

The ELA summer school was opened by its director, Berta Herrero, head of the department for diversity, equality and integration at Huawei Europe. She stressed: “I am proud that my home country of Spain is hosting this great programme. Women from across Europe are gathering here to become the leaders the world needs and when the time comes they will remember that it all started here in Spain, at our European Leadership Academy. During this week we will equip them with the tools and skills they need to be at the forefront of the digital revolution. My message to them is clear: talent is power. femininity is power. technology is power. Combine the three and let the power of your skills, ambition and determination lead you to success.”

Opening with top-class speakers

The opening ceremony took place at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. 29 participants from the EU and Ukraine were welcomed by high-profile female leaders. Among them were Danuta Hubner, MEP and former EU Commissioner for Trade and Regional Policy, Mary Coughlan, former Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland and Josianne Cutajar, one of the youngest MEPs. They all encouraged the young women to seize their opportunities and gave them valuable life advice for their future path.

More than 100 women have already benefited from the ELA Summer School

Selina Wen, Huawei’s main representative at the European institutions, was pleased with the great interest in the program: “Since we launched the European Leadership Academy 2021, more than 100 talented young women from 34 European countries have benefited from this program. Our graduates are already in leading positions in technology, business, global politics and science. The European Leadership Academy is part of our long-term commitment to Europe, helping thousands of European talents to upskill and reskill so they can prepare the European economy for the green and digital transitions.”

Tony Yong Jin, Vice President of Huawei Region Europe, said: “We are excited to hold our 2023 Summer School in Spain, just days before the start of the Spanish EU Presidency. Huawei is an integral part of the European innovation ecosystem and a reliable partner in green and digital transformation. We believe that innovation cannot be brought regarding by a single person, a single company or a single country. All of our successes cannot be achieved without openness and collaboration. We need to be open to understand each other’s strengths and work together for a better future.”
