Huawei announces the Paris Innovation Center on Europe Innovation Day

Huawei today hosted Innovation Day 2023 in Paris under the theme “SME Innovation: Unlocking Europe’s Economic Future.” The event brought together innovators from Europe and beyond to discuss how collaboration can lead to SME success. During At the event, Huawei announced the opening of its Paris Innovation Center, which will serve as a platform for further collaboration between Huawei and its partners.

In her remarks, Vicky Zhang, Huawei’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs, said: “Only by working together can we build a healthy ecosystem that will help Europe’s economy thrive.” Together with its SME partners HD Rain and Ubudu, Huawei then announced the opening of its Paris Innovation Center. Kenneth Fredriksen, Senior Vice President of Huawei Europe, said: “30 years ago, Huawei was also a small company. Today I am pleased to announce that Huawei will open its Paris Innovation Center. Regardless of whether Whether they are established businesses or SMEs, this is a platform to help all our partners succeed.”

Huawei will invest more than two million euros annually in the Paris Innovation Center and open its platform to partners with more than 80 industry scenarios. The center aims to not only promote knowledge sharing and joint innovation, but also provide professional resources for integration and verification as well as go-to-market support. With an end-to-end partner support system, this Innovation Center is an upgrade of Huawei’s Paris OpenLab, which has served more than 200 partners since 2018.

Digital change was a central topic in the discussions. Horst Heitz, Chairman of the KMU Connect Steering Committee, shared his opinion on the importance of digitalization for SMEs. “The advantages of SMEs and start-ups are their breakthrough ideas and innovative approaches to business and technology, but at the same time they need to improve their own business structures, internal processes, cyber resilience and much more to remain competitive. The only way to do this is to achieve full digitalization and adapt to the rapidly changing European market. Here we can help them grow their business and support them.”

Several industry leaders called for more collaborations to help SMEs succeed. Julia Devos, Head of New Champions, World Economic Forum, said: “SMEs are the backbone of the economy and the key to a sustainable future. Together we can create a support system that will help them prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the future and lead them to success.” François Mercier-Tigrine, co-founder and Scientific Director of HD Rain, reiterated his statement: “SMEs, especially in the Deep Tech, are very important in bridging the gap between the time when a technology is still in a research laboratory and the time when it is industrialized. At this stage, new technologies need support in terms of funding and access to markets, for example through partnerships with institutions and large companies.
