Facundo Jones Huala was transferred to the Esquel Federal Prison, in Chubut, while the extradition request requested by Chile is advancing.
Yesterday morning it was certified that the Mapuche leader was in “good health” and this allowed his transfer. The data is key since Jones Huala had been on a hunger strike for three days. Within this framework, the transfer was authorized, which was carried out by agents of Squadron No. 34 of the Gendarmerie on various mobiles.
Around 11 in the morning, he arrived at Unit 14 of the Esquel prison amid delusive shouts. Among them: “Out with Huinca. Marco wey. Mapuche national liberation. Long live the RAM”.
Thus, the leader of the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM), who spent three days at police station No. 36 in Dina Huapi (Río Negro), must now get used to the routine of Unit No. 14, where he will remain until his extradition to Chile is formalized, where he is claimed.
In this context, the Justice of the neighboring country approved the day before yesterday the first stage of the extradition, who was a fugitive for almost a year until he was captured in El Bolsón.
The decision was made in an oral hearing in which the Prosecutor’s Office and the trans-Andean government demanded the extradition of the Mapuche referent, while his defense rejected it because it was not proven that one of the requirements for him to be sent to Chile was met.
Now the case will go to the local Supreme Court of Justice to continue with the formal process that enables the transfer to the neighboring country.
