UHW’s dedication to modernization extends beyond surgical services. Work is already underway on a dedicated extension building to enhance laboratory facilities. Moreover, a thorough growth control plan is being meticulously formulated to ensure the hospital’s future growth seamlessly aligns with the ever-evolving demands of healthcare.
Community healthcare is also receiving a ample boost. the construction of a groundbreaking Audiology, Orthodontic, and Ophthalmology Integrated Healthcare Hub Center in Waterford is nearing completion.This innovative hub, facilitated by the renovation of disused ward blocks at St. Otteran’s Hospital, promises to revolutionize access to specialized care.
“The Hub will facilitate outpatient appointments across all three Consultant-led disciplines, which to date took place in University Hospital Waterford,” a spokesperson noted.
Looking towards the future, phase-by-phase works, including roof replacements and internal renovations, are planned for St.Otteran’s Hospital’s main building. This revitalization, dependent upon securing capital funding, will liberate significant space, enabling the accommodation of a wider range of acute hospital and community healthcare-related clinical services, treatments, therapies, and support programs.
Waterford’s commitment to healthcare extends beyond acute services. Plans for a brand new primary care center in Lismore, County Waterford, are already in motion. This initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to expanding healthcare services to reach wider geographical areas.
Dungarvan Community Hospital has already witnessed positive advancements. Refurbishments have successfully accommodated Community Health network teams, with further upgrades scheduled for completion later this year. Additionally, the state-of-the-art Seabreeze residential care center, completed late last year, provides crucial accommodation for individuals with enduring mental health conditions.
“A 12-bed single-story facility on the Youghal Rd. Seabreeze replaces accommodation previously located at Springmount House on the Dungarvan Community Hospital complex and became operational in November,” a spokesperson said.
dungarvan’s dedication to quality care remains steadfast, with a new residential care center planned for the hospital grounds. This new development, designed to replace the existing Dungarvan Community Hospital, follows inclusion in the HSE Capital Plan. Currently, a design brief is under development.
