(Alliance News) – HSBC UK is “urgently” investigating the difficulties its customers faced accessing its banking services during Black Friday.
The bank has apologized to its customers and is working to restore its mobile and online banking services, including allowing online card purchases through the app.
A message posted by the bank on X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “We understand that some customers are having difficulty accessing banking services as usual at this time.
“We are urgently investigating this issue and will update you as soon as possible.”
The disruptions come as the “Black Friday” shopping frenzy begins, during which retailers slash prices.
Some people might want to access their bank account to check how much money they have left to spend during the sales.
November 24 being the last Friday of the month, it will also be payday for some.
One X user reacted to HSBC UK’s post: “This is literally the worst time ever. People have been paid and have bills to pay.”
Another said: “I need to move money so I can pay my bills: “I need to move money so I can buy Black Friday products (that I don’t need), it might be be a sign!
HSBC UK said in a statement: “We are working hard to restore HSBC UK’s mobile and online banking services, including enabling online card purchases through the app.
“We understand that this situation is very frustrating for some of our customers and we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
HSBC UK said the issues experienced by its customers did not affect customers of the First Direct and M&S Bank brands.
It appears that the issues were caused by an internal system issue.
Shares of HSBC Holdings PLC were down 0.9% at 606.50 pence each on Friday morning in London.
