How will consumers be compensated by DEDDIE for power outages

How many times have you wondered during a power outage, who will compensate for the damages caused either to homes or businesses? The Energy Regulatory Authority has published its decision on the mechanism for payment of compensation by DEDDIE to electricity consumers, regarding cases of long-term power outages both under normal and emergency conditions.

Estimated power restoration time:

-12 hours for normal conditions

-48 hours for extraordinary conditions (for example extreme weather, natural disasters)

In case of exceeding the specified restoration time, the payment of financial compensation is foreseen, the amount of which is determined according to the category of affected low voltage consumers (domestic consumers, non-domestic consumers). This amount is established for domestic consumers at 10 euros until 2024 and gradually escalates to 50 euros in the next four years. For non-household consumers, the amount is doubled. It is noted that consumers are compensated with this amount for every 12 hours that their supply interruption continues following the specified restoration time. In particular, if the damage is repaired (under normal conditions) within 12 hours, no compensation is provided. If the damage is repaired following the first 12 hours, then for each 12 hours the compensation will be 10 euros, (numerical example 1 follows). Also, the amount of 500 euros for residential consumers and the amount of 1,000 euros for low-voltage non-residential consumers is set as an upper limit to the total amount paid per consumer and year.
