Forest fires, heat waves, tornadoes, floods… This summer, extreme weather events have ( once more) entered the daily life of the French. To inform correctly regarding these phenomena, the major channels are stepping up their efforts. The weather report itself has to reinvent itself. A quick reminder: on the main generalist channels (TF1, France 2, France 3 and M6), every evening for a few minutes, the weather reports attract as many viewers as a good episode of “HPI”, best audience of French fiction! But while the reflex of going to an app to find out the time of day is becoming commonplace, this television landmark must be renewed.
The challenge ? Continue to inform – and warn if necessary – regarding the weather, making the link with climate change and what science can teach us in this area.
