Question from Jean-Luc

Do we have to repay a subscription if we have a second home and watch Netflix there too?

Hello Jean-Luc,

As you probably know, Netflix has put an end to account sharing, making it impossible to share identifiers with your loved ones. But indeed, for your personal use, the question of second home, or even simply going on vacation arises.

Indeed, how can you continue to watch your favorite series, and benefit from the subscription you pay for, when you are not in your main home? To understand, you have to look at the method that Netflix now uses to locate and identify you.

31 days of departure “allowed” by Netflix

By opening Netflix now, on any screen, the platform will check your IP address, the identification number of the device you are using. Except that your IP address of a device changes when you switch to another WiFi network: this is what allows Netflix to locate the connection.

Once Netflix identifies your primary home network, the company will force you to connect to it at least once a month, i.e. 31 daysto continue accessing your programs at all times.

As long as you do not exceed this deadline and using a device you brought back from home, so there should be no problem watching a movie or series on vacation, or in your second home.

If you leave for more than a month, you will have to pay the extra €5.99 per month to add an additional subscriber to your account.

Good day,

Writing.
