How to turn off the tinnitus effect in Horizon Forbidden West

Players in Horizon Forbidden West You may have already noticed that in some situations the game creates the effect of tinnitus. As in life, it occurs when Aloy encounters powerful explosions or special robot attacks.

Tinnitus (from Latin tinnīre, which means “to tinkle or ring like a bell”) – ringing or noise in the ears without external acoustic stimulus. This sensation can be characterized by patients as a hum, hiss, whistle, ringing, the sound of falling water, the chirping of grasshoppers.

Diggers are especially notorious for causing severe discomfort to Aloy. At least if this option is enabled in the settings. This usually manifests itself in a high tone that blocks out all other sounds. However, if you are uncomfortable playing in such conditions, then there is a very easy way to turn off these “phantom sounds”.

Here’s what you need to do to disable the effect:

  • Open the main menu by pressing the options button on the controller

  • Press R1 and go to audio tab

  • Scroll down and next to “Mute tinnitus sound” change to “Yes”

The ringing should now be disabled.
