To start the car in cold weather, it is necessary to charge the battery from the mains or fill the engine with oil corresponding to the temperature regime. Auto expert Maxim Sokolov shared these tips.

According to him, one of the most common reasons why a car won’t start is a dead battery. “The best solution would be to remove the battery and charge it from the mains,” the expert said in an interview with RT. He added that the engine may not start due to problems with the starter due to the fact that the contacts on it are oxidized. In this case, you need to clean the wires from plaque and treat them with a special lubricant.

Also, oil can thicken in a car engine if it does not match the temperature regime. “Moreover, you won’t be able to change the oil on the go, you will have to wait for warming,” the expert noted. In addition, spark plugs and the ignition system can be the cause. If these elements do not produce a spark, they will need to be replaced.

The car may also not start due to a malfunctioning alternator. The flickering of the dashboard and headlights will tell regarding the breakdown. The problem needs to be fixed in a car service.

Sokolov also said that if there is nothing at hand, then you can try to start the vehicle “from the pusher”. However, he clarified that the advice only applies to cars with manual transmissions. “To do this, the car is removed from the handbrake, the ignition is turned on and the lever is switched to third gear. The engine is accelerated to 30 km / h and the clutch is quickly released. Then they turn on the neutral and gas it up, ”the specialist shared. According to him, the battery will have to be charged at idle.

If the lock is frozen on the car, you need to use a special defrost spray, heat the metal key with a lighter flame and insert it into the lock. You can also moisten the key with antifreeze, attach a bottle of hot water to the keyhole and wait until the lock thaws.
