How to solve the problem of not being able to enter 2-step verification on Amazon because I changed my mobile number – Kagua! Creator Economy News

I can’t log in to Amazon! I changed my mobile number for two-step verification when logging in, so I can’t receive SMS. Furthermore, the login is for Amazon.com, an American company, so I can’t understand it in English. I solved it, so I’ll share the method. I really appreciate Amazon’s customer support because it’s very friendly.

What are the situations where two-step authentication is not possible on Amazon?

  • When logging in to Amazon in the US, an SMS is sent to your mobile phone with two-factor authentication.
  • However, I changed my phone and can’t receive calls from that number.
  • Even the method described in the help doesn’t work because you have to proceed with the process with two-step authentication.
  • I tried to call the customer, but since it’s Amazon.com in the US, I can’t speak English.

I had created an account on Amazon.com and had assigned the mobile number I had at the time to two-factor authentication.

Since I rarely used Amazon in the US, I forgot that I had set up two-factor authentication and canceled my mobile number.

When I log in, it says that I sent an SMS to that number, but of course I can’t proceed…

Furthermore, when I looked at various solutions, I found one that would help me forget my password, so I tried that, but in the end, when I proceeded with that, at the very end I was asked for two-step authentication. That’s what happens.

How to call and resolve issues with Amazon customers

  • In conclusion, call customer support internationally (it is written in the help)
  • I verified my identity and had my two-factor authentication mobile number changed on the spot.
  • You will receive an SMS to your new mobile number, so log in again.

My family uses Hikari Denwa with NURO Hikari, and when I looked into it, I found out that international calls can be made at regular rates, so I decided to call customer support.

I did this in English. However, since I can’t speak English, I put my smartphone on the receiver and spoke using a Microsoft translation app.

Microsoft translation

>>Microsoft Translator – Apps on Google Play

At first, I didn’t really understand the situation, so I ended up being asked things like, “Why don’t you put me in charge of Spanish?” The first man’s translation was so poor that he was cut off midway through.

Interpretation app

The woman I called for the second time was patient and waited for my response, and we were able to resolve the issue. Thank you very much.

I highly value Amazon’s customer support.

The process of entering with two-step authentication

Click the link that goes to customer on the login screen

Amazon customer

I forgot my password, I can’t use it.

Amazon customer

You can find articles on the internet that tell you to follow the procedures for forgetting your password, but when you proceed with this, at the very end, you’ll be prompted to authenticate your number as it has been sent to you via SMS.

Call the customer directly

Amazon customer

So, even though I’m in the US, I have no choice but to call Amazon customer support internationally. If it’s a domestic problem, I think it’s OK to call now.

Talk with the interpreter app and receiver

  1. Make a call, and if the other party can hear you, speak to the interpreter app
  2. Speak in Japanese to the interpreter app, then hold the receiver close to the receiver to hear the translated English.
  3. Immediately press the button to interpret the other party’s words and pick up the receiver.
  4. If you can translate what the other person is saying well, that’s fine; if not, say “Excuse me, please say it again” in English.

Repeat this over and over again. Try to communicate what you are doing, such as “Wait a minute” or “Now, check, email.”

amazon.com: Account confirmation request

amazon.com: Account confirmation request

The person on the other end of the call will be asked to confirm their identity. In my case, I gave my name, account email address, and previous mobile number. “Oh, oh…zero, zero…” I said in broken English.

You will receive an email saying “amazon.com: Account confirmation request”, so click “Approve” to authenticate.

Change your phone number for two-step verification

Now you can finally change your two-factor authentication settings. Give your new cell phone number to the other person in English. “Zero, nine, zero…” This is also broken English.

I did not receive the authentication SMS! say +81

Once you provide your new mobile number, you will receive an SMS for verification. It just doesn’t arrive! Because it’s an international call, you have to give the country code.

Therefore, in the case of Japan, add “+81”. So, I changed it to “plus, eight, one, nine, zero…”. When the country code “+81” is added, the leading zero is not necessary, and if it is 090-, it will be 90-.
(I gave a good job to myself for coming up with this idea)

SMS will be sent to your new mobile number with country code

When I gave my new mobile number with country code, I received an SMS from the US on my mobile! “Fantastic!” I couldn’t help but say, but I verbally gave the number that was sent to me.
Then, the identity verification is completed.

Support will change you to a new number.

Amazon customer

The customer support staff will then manually change the settings for my account, including a new mobile number and two-factor authentication number.
You will be asked to “try logging in,” so when you proceed with logging in… your new number will appear on the two-factor authentication input screen!

You can now log in successfully. Then, check that the “Primary mobile number” in “Login & Security” on My Page is the new mobile number.

How to solve 2-step verification when you change your mobile phone

  1. Call Amazon Customer
  2. Tell us your name, registration email, and previous phone number
  3. You will receive a verification email, so click “Approve”
  4. Give your new mobile number (including the country code +81)
  5. Give the number written in the SMS sent to your mobile phone
  6. Customer activates new number (done!)

Truly, the translation app was a godsend. I also really appreciate the patience of Amazon’s customer support staff. thank you very much.

If you are unable to log in with Amazon’s two-factor authentication because you have changed your mobile number, please try this.

English phrases that are good to remember

  • Sorry, wait a minute.
  • Please say it again, slowly.
  • two-step verification

In any case, it’s difficult to know the timing with the other person through an interpreter app. Therefore, there were many moments when I asked them to say it again. Also, I sometimes have to send emails and authenticate, so it was difficult to tell them what I was doing at the moment.
