Updated Windows 11 and an unwanted icon has crept into your taskbar? This is the Copilot, a Microsoft 365 tool (formerly the Office suite) that integrates chatGPT technology into applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams. It turns out that not everyone uses these apps or wants to navigate with a virtual assistant.
In Windows 11, Copilot is integrated with Bing Chat and works as a kind of computer usage assistant or “co-pilot”. Watch below a simple dialogue I had with Copilot:
As you can see, Copilot is pretty clever, but unfortunately, uninstalling it completely involves removing Microsoft Edge, which is a relatively intrusive and annoying process to do. As an alternative, we can simply remove the icon from the taskbarsee how:
Necessary time: 1 minutes
Right-click on a free space on the taskbar. Then click settings from the taskbar;
Now that we’re on taskbar customization, you can turn search, task view, widgets, chat, and Copilot on and off.
Despite being a paid service, the free version of Copilot “chat” was forcefully introduced in the new Windows 11 update, replacing the virtual assistant Cortana. If you want to know more regarding Copilot, we wrote an excellent article explaining everything regarding this new Microsoft 365 tool (formerly the Office suite).
If you want to uninstall Microsoft Edge completely, check out the tutorial here.
