SAN DIEGO.- Talking regarding death is always a difficult topic, but it is necessary because if it happens suddenly and you do not have a will or a beneficiary, we can leave our family in serious trouble.
This is what happened to Carolina Sánchez, who, in addition to the sadness of losing her brother, had to face a series of obstacles in order to recover the money that he saved with so much effort in his life.
“It was very unfair to me because my brother lived there for many years and they mightn’t keep that money because he worked for it,” says Sánchez, who in less than a month went through the difficult experience of the death of two of your brothers.
“My brother passed away in Mexico on July 5 and I had just been two weeks following burying that one and this one died on August 6. So, as they say, he was still not breathing, he was not processing the death of one when the death of this other came to me, ”said Sánchez.
She is referring to her brother Leopoldo, who passed away in North Carolina in August 2021. She was heartbroken, penniless and worried regarding expenses, but even so, she traveled to North Carolina alone to organize and carry out the funeral.
Upon arrival, he learned that Leopoldo had a bank account at Wells Fargo, but when he tried to find out, he was denied access. It was when he realized that since he had no children or a wife to survive, his brother’s money would remain in the hands of the bank.
“That money belonged to my brother and I had a lot of expenses, I think that this money belongs to me to be able to cover those expenses that have not yet been covered,” he said.
When contacting Telemundo 20 Responde, Wells Fargo was called, requesting information on the steps to follow in cases like this, in which the account holder has no beneficiaries.
Wells Fargo said in a statement:
“When a loved one passes away, we know that dealing with their finances can be overwhelming. We are here to help make it as simple and straightforward as possible. We provide information and tools in our customer service center that can help family members with the required documentation. It is important to know that the required documentation may vary from state to state. We encourage customers with questions or concerns to contact us.”
After the intervention of Telemundo 20 Responde, Sánchez was able to present the necessary documentation and received a check with his brother’s savings.
“I feel grateful to God and to you, once once more I reiterate, Telemundo Responde is the one that made all this that I just did come true, this achievement following more than a year,” she said.
It is important to leave a will and trust, as well as define who will be your representative or beneficiary if you die. Also make sure you have all your documents in order not only at your banking institution, but also with your life insurance or retirement or retirement account.
Although it is difficult to think regarding it, you have to plan for the day when we are no longer here, with a will you make sure to decide who will be able to enjoy the fruit of your effort.
