Having a blocked nose is one of the most unpleasant symptoms. Above all, because it prevents you from sleeping, because it also makes you tired and removes all the flavors from meals. Here’s how to unclog it quickly.
Summary
The blocked nose characterized byinflammation of the nasal mucosa. It causes respiratory discomfort forcing you to breathe through your mouth. However, nasal breathing is a fundamental prerequisite for optimal functioning of the airways. Also, nasal obstruction is the subject of numerous consultations with the doctor. If it is a benign symptom, nasal obstruction remains extremely bothersome for the patient given its strong correlation with the organs of the ENT sphere which are the larynx, ears or pharynx. This poor passage of air flow through the nasal opening may be due to:
- a cold (most common), rhinitis or sinusitis
- an allergy
- the presence of a foreign body
- more rarely, certain tumor pathologies
In the evening, at night, in the morning?
Nasal obstruction is characterized by feeling like you can no longer breathe through your nose. It is often accompanied by other signs. “The production of mucus is a means of defense allowing foreign elements (dust, bacteria, etc.) to be carried away with blowing your nose. Sometimes, this overproduction of sticky mucus (phlegm) is annoying because it is too thick in consistency.“, explains Dr. Jean-Michel Morel, general practitioner.
• Blocked nose and sore throat: If excess mucus drains through the throat, it can cause nasopharyngitis, a condition that causes coughing and sore throat. Sometimes these symptoms are accompanied by a low-grade fever for 2 to 3 days.
• Stuffy nose in the morning: one nostril or even both may be affected. This symptom may be due to too dry air in your room, inflammation caused by mites or pollen, an anomaly such as a deviated nasal septum or the presence of a polyp in the nostril.
• Stuffy nose lying down at night: “The lying position can block the nose due to the tilting of the soft palate, in this case you must try to maintain the position lying on your side“, specifies Dr. Morel.
• Permanently blocked nose: “A permanent respiratory allergy or polyps are most often responsible for this extremely annoying symptom.“, says our expert.
• Blocked and runny nose: also called rhinorrhea, this is excess mucus that flows. Its appearance is clear in the case of an allergy, thick in the case of an infection.
Solutions for a blocked nose
And what to do with baby?
Use regularly throughout the day a baby aspirator to remove the mucus that clogs his nasal cavity.
There are two types of models: either you vacuum yourself, or the vacuuming is done by pressing a bulb. Also remove the mucus that is blocking his nostrils with a tissue. Finally, you can wash his nose with an isotonic seawater solution or physiological serum.
