How to prioritize a connection type (wired or wireless) on Mac

In addition to connecting using a Wi-Fi network, Macs also allow you to do this using an Ethernet-type network (i.e. wired), for example.

If you use these two types — or more — you can completely change the order in which the computer tries to connect. In other words: even with Wi-Fi turned on, it may prioritize the wired connection or vice versa.

Apple notes, however, that this is not valid for VPN-type connectionsVirtual private networkor virtual private network.”>1as they already have priority over those without a VPN.

Without further ado, see how to do this procedure on your computer! ????

On your Mac, open System Settings and click “Network” in the left sidebar. Then, go to the drop-down menu with three dots — in the bottom right corner — and “Define Service Order…”.

Then, drag the connections so that the first ones will be prioritized, that is: if you want the computer to connect via Ethernet first, drag this connection to the top. When finished, click “OK”.

Easy, right?! ????‍????
