Before you can face Rubépin, member of Council 4 of the Blueberry Institute in the Indigo Disc DLC of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple, you will have to complete a Council 4 Challenge. Here’s how to complete the Very Spicy Sandwich challenge.
The Indigo Disc expansion for Pokémon Scarlet and Purple presents players with new challenges, such as Council 4 of the Blueberry Institute. You already know the formula: a series of powerful trainers to defeat to access the end-game content.
One of the new members of Council 4 is Rubépin, ranked number 5 in the entire school. This Fire-type specialist trainer is quite strong, but before even thinking regarding challenging him, it is essential to complete his Council Challenge 4: the Very Spicy Sandwich challenge.

How to complete the Very Spicy Rubépin Sandwich challenge
As its name suggests, Rubépin’s Board Challenge 4 asks you to prepare a particularly spicy sandwich. However, you won’t be able to use ingredients you already have. Instead, you’ll have to talk to other students, fight them, and trade with them to get what you need to make the sandwich.
Here’s how to do it step by step to easily get all the necessary ingredients:
- Defeat Madeleine to get Potato Salad
- Trade the Potato Salad for an Onion, a Cucumber and a Raw Ham (NPC who says “Three ingredients in exchange for this thing we dig up”)
- Defeat Amandine to obtain Mayonnaise
- Swap Mayonnaise for Egg, Olive Oil and Vinegar (NPC who says “Question for three ingredients”)
- Trade Cucumber for Hot Sauce (NPC that says “Hot Sauce! Ketchup!”)
- Trade the Egg for a Chorizo (NPC who says “A trade that packs a punch!”)
- Exchange Vinegar for Mustard (NPC that says “Marmalade and mustard”)
- Swap the Raw Ham and Olive Oil for a Chili Pepper (NPC who says “Who wants extra hot chili pepper?”)
- Optional: Defeat the trainer behind the Rock to obtain a second Chili Pepper, or buy it
Once all these steps have been completed, you will have in your possession all the ingredients for the Very Spicy Sandwich: Hot Sauce, Mustard, Chorizo and Chili (one or two copies).

Note that collecting the two peppers simply triggers a special dialogue with Rubépin, which has no impact on the rest of the adventure.
If you unfortunately make a mistake and collect the wrong ingredient from an NPC, it is always possible to go back and make the reverse exchange.
You are now ready to face the terrible Rubépin and his team of Fire Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet!
