It is entirely possible to reduce your cholesterol level by up to 30% by adopting a healthy lifestyle, according to Dr. Picotte, a family doctor in Shawinigan.

“It’s not the cholesterol that counts, it’s not having a heart attack and a stroke,” he says.
Unsurprisingly, Dr. Picotte recommends prioritizing physical activity, avoiding smoking and adopting a Mediterranean diet.
“We know the recipe,” he recalls.
He also suggests favoring fiber and nuts in your diet and cutting out processed fats, refined sugars and sugary drinks.
Nutritional supplements do not help prevent disease, expert says.
Dr. Picotte recalls, however, that statins (hypolipidemics) are the treatment for people with diabetes, having suffered a stroke or suffering from heart problems or kidney failure.
