How to identify if you are holding a 1,000 coin or a ‘treasure’ | Trends

If you are one of those who accumulate thousands of coins in your piggy bank or, at least, carry one in your wallet, you should know that you are facing a more valuable monetary treasure than you thought. If, on the other hand, you didn’t notice its existence, you will do so after learning how much you can earn for one with a particular design.

($200 coins with spin? These cost as a collector’s item.)

Among dozens of currency exchanges that are made every day, all currencies look the same. However, they are not: a slight change of position in one of the designs of the faces, According to a renowned TikTok collector, it could make the difference between 1,000 and 600,000 Colombian pesos.

The person in charge of revealing this unusual and unknown secret was @nan2med, a popular collector who undertook the task of putting 11 different thousand-year coins on the table -since 2012- to compare why one was more valuable than the others. The answer was found in nothing more and nothing less than on one of the faces of the piece of metal.

The procedure carried out by the tiktoker, to find the difference between one coin and the others, was to take the piece from the front -the one that reveals the number 1,000- and, immediately afterwards, turn it to be able to contemplate the design of the loggerhead turtle that rests in the back. “If we put a coin in front and turn it, we see the turtle on the left”explains the collector.

(The most powerful currencies in the world… and the dollar does not lead).

One by one, the man, who is dedicated to finding valuable differences in the banknotes and coins of various countries, performs the same steps with each of the pieces exposed on the table. The result: all but one have the turtle on the left side.

While in traditional coins the design of the marine animal appears on the left side, in the valuable pieces it rests in the lower part. “This is what is known as a spin coin”explains the collector, who also does a brief search on the Mercado Libre platform to find out the market price at which they can be sold: 600 thousand pesos is the, by no means negligible, amount offered for this particular object.

Something similar happens with the 200 coins.

“That 200 coin has a 90-degree turn, while normal coins don’t,” the man points out in another TikTok video and, seconds later, explains that they can cost between 10,000 and 50,000 Colombian pesos.

(So are the dollar cents that can be worth up to $800 million).

The 200 coins, for their part, are not exempt from having a higher collectible value either. According to @nan2med, what is common is that when they are rotated -from the part that exposes the value- a cross-shaped design appears. If you get an X, instead of a cross, you are facing a coin.
