Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common problem, especially among children, and it may persist with the person until adulthood. Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Hamouda, a teacher and consultant in psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar University, told “Youm7” that ADHD is a genetic neuropsychiatric disorder that has nothing to do with parental mistreatment, adding that mistreatment of the child, of course, increases the symptoms of ADHD. Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Hamouda confirmed that the main factor for hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder is biological, because the frontal cortex of the brain cannot control impulsivity, movement, and attention as a result of a deficiency in the neurotransmitter dopamine.

He continued, saying that not treating ADHD makes the child move to worse stages, as he may develop stubbornness disorder as well as many behavioral problems.
