How to Handle a Workplace Invasion of Privacy

I had an incident. A colleague recently asked for a phone number: to urgently call her mother, something happened, and she forgot her smartphone at home. I offered mine without a second thought and regretted it a million times!

My phone has a large screen and is very convenient. I have adapted it for a lot of different things. For example, it’s very comfortable to apply makeup: you turn on the front camera and see if everything works out.

And sometimes I like to take pictures of myself: before and after. For example, before plucking eyebrows and after. Then I look at it and decide: to keep this form or try a new one next time.

And a colleague, who for some reason was climbing into the gallery, saw all this. I have a lot of “before and after” photos there. And not just with eyebrows!

For example, I recently bought a nose trimmer. A small thing that is convenient for removing hairs from the nostrils. Of course, it was stupid to photograph it, but I didn’t know that someone would see these photos! There’s a close-up of my nose. With and without hairs.

My bad hairstyles and styling. And, of course, a photo of a figure in underwear. I compared my body before and after another diet. This is what I’m most ashamed of. I can see cellulite there and my tummy. At work I wear formal suits, tights, and high-waisted skirts. Nobody knows that I have a belly.

And now she knows. She saw everything. There’s no way I can get away with it – my face is visible everywhere, the apartment is the same. It’s impossible to say that these are someone else’s photos.

I don’t know how long she managed to scroll through and look at it. But her face was very malicious. I took my phone back and didn’t pay attention to her strange look – all my thoughts were about work. And only before bed, when I washed off my makeup and wanted to take a picture of my face out of habit, everything suddenly became clear.

I grabbed my smartphone and started watching it myself. Yes, these photos come almost immediately, the very first. And you don’t need to look for anything – everything is at your fingertips. What a disgrace!

This all happened before the vacation. So far I’m sitting at home and haven’t seen my colleague. But soon I’ll have to go to work, I’m just terrified of this. What should I do? What to do?

On the one hand, it is actually her fault, and she should be ashamed. There’s no point in messing with someone else’s phone! Why did she go look at the photos? She was given a phone to use it for its intended purpose – to make a call. It was very rude of her.

But in fact… I feel shame and disgrace. She’s funny. I remember that day: how she looked at me and chuckled. And, it seems, she was approaching the others. I don’t know what they were talking about there. But the other employees seemed to behave as usual. Nobody came up and laughed at me.

But soon the whole team will know. I didn’t expect Anya to behave this way. And now I don’t know what she’s capable of. She seemed like an ordinary girl, polite, simple. And this is how it turned out.

Was she really looking for a reason to shame me? We had an even relationship. I never touched her. We hardly talk at all. We said hello, wished us a bon appetit during lunch, and said goodbye in the evening. I don’t understand why she’s doing this. What does he want? Why all this?

I’m probably screwing myself over. But how can I work if this curious colleague who has seen me in comical and awkward situations is sitting three meters away? I’m burning with shame! Yes, and she will be embarrassed. Now Anya will probably only imagine me in shorts. And with a tummy, and with cellulite thighs.

Of course, I don’t want to quit because of such a trifle. Is this a small thing though? The man simply harmed me. He took it and ruined the mood for a long time. I’ll probably ask to be transferred to another department so as not to meet with Anya. Although it’s a pity to lose this place, this cozy table. I love working there!
