I think a lot of people use Audacity for podcasts, game reviews, etc. However, when using Audacity connected via USB, a limiter is automatically applied to the recording level, causing the top and bottom to be cut off, which is a problem. This problem was solved by removing the BridgeCast mixer.

Applying a limiter when recording with Audacity

As shown in the image above, the limiter is automatically applied when recording. This is the default state. The environment is as follows. *BridgeCast is the latest version at the time of writing this article.

  • Windows 10
  • Audacity 3.2.3
  • USB connection with Roland BridgeCast
  • Microphone SM58 (dynamic microphone)

It is located under BridgeCast settings.

  • Microphone settings dynamics
  • Bold Recording: STREAM

How to Release the Limiter

Anyway, Audacity doesn’t have a limiter to begin with. When I recorded it without going through the mixer’s BridgeCast, it turned out fine.

This is also BridgeCast, but the limiter doesn’t seem to apply if you use the STREAM input.

I also disabled the compressor via the BridgeCast’s MIC input, but the limiter seems to be being applied, probably because of the BridgeCast driver.
