The State Department of the USA opened since October 2022 the registration process for the Diversity Immigrant Visa Programbetter known as the Visa Lottery, for the period 2024.
This program is intended to offer visas for permanent residence to people from countries with low levels of migration to the North American country. Some advantages offered by these visas are study and work permits, as well as the freedom to enter and leave the United States.
The program was created in 1996 under the Immigration Law, with the goal of strengthening the diversity of immigrants in the country. Since the system works in such a way that a computer chooses the winners of the Green Card randomly, from there it takes the name Lottery of Visas.
How do you participate in the Visa Lottery?
In the first place, in order to enter the registration process, a series of requirements must be met, as established by the official page from the Department of State:
- Have completed secondary school or its equivalent, which would be the successful completion of a 12-year course of primary and secondary education.
- Have worked a minimum of two years in the last five, in a position that requires at least two years of professional training or experience.

When are the Green Card winners announced?
According to the Department of State, the results of the winners will be given as May 6, 2023 until September 30, 2024. In order to verify your position you must: verify your participant status with the Department of State and enter the confirmation number.
In case you have won the visa, there are several steps to follow. The first is to confirm if you accept the Green Card; if you do, you will have to submit the corresponding application with the form DS-260. Once the documentation is attached, you will be summoned for a personal interviewwith the relatives who will travel with you -in case you have them-.
