How to choose a women’s watch?

I will say it right away, watches and the world of watchmaking is not the hunt to keep men! I love watches, from Pierre Lannier to Tissot to Casio Vintage or an Oris for nice dinners, I love watches, I love beautiful watches and I love watchmaking.

Watches are essential accessories for me and I find it important to correctly choose the model that corresponds to your style and your tastes. In this article, I will go over the different aspects to consider when choosing a watch for women. It’s a little technical, but nothing insurmountable.

The movement of the watch

When buying a watch, you need to know what type of movement (mechanisms) it has. This movement is a bit like the heart that allows the needles to come to life.

There are several types of movements and each has its own characteristics and advantages/disadvantages.

Here are the 4 most popular:

  • Quartz : Quartz watches are powered by a battery (battery) and use a quartz crystal to regulate time. Quartz watches are known for their relatively low cost, but have a lifespan of 12 to 24 months.
  • Hand-wound mechanics: Mechanical watches are powered by a spring that is manually tensioned by “winding up” the crown. Mechanical watches are appreciated for their precision and durability, but they can be more expensive and require daily intervention to “wind” them up.
  • Automatic mechanics: Almost identical to mechanical, automatic watches are powered by a mainspring that is automatically tensioned by movement of the wrist. As precise as the mechanics, they are often much more expensive (perhaps less true with the arrival of Japanese movements).
  • Solar: A solar watch is a quartz watch whose battery is recharged directly by sunlight.

About the box

watch case shape

The form

The choice of the shape of the case depends above all on the tastes of each one. It can be rounded, square, rectangular or even barrel. We find :

  • The round shape: it is most often designed for classic watches. In addition, it goes well with a casual or classic outfit.
  • The square shape: this shape is undeniably modern and offers a more assertive and eye-catching style.
  • The rectangular shape: it combines modernity and classicism for a trendy and original look.
  • The barrel shape: this form is very original and can adapt to all styles.

In order to find the watch that best suits your wrist, do not hesitate to try several models to obtain the best compromise.

The size of the box

The case must correspond to the morphology of the wrist so that aesthetics is at the rendezvous. The most common size is between 36 and 40 millimeters for men and between 26 and 30 millimeters for women. But once more, you do what you want ????

Materials in watchmaking

Just like for the shape of the case, the materials affect the style and wear of your timepiece.

The most common are:

  • Stainless steel: Probably the most used material in watchmaking. It is sturdy, lightweight and sweat resistant.
  • L’or : It gives a luxurious and chic touch to a watch. However, it is fragile and requires special attention.
  • Titanium: Material extremely resistant to corrosion and scratches and which has the advantage of being ultra light.

The watch strap

Another thing to consider when choosing a watch is the strap that comes with it. You can opt for leather or metal straps, depending on your tastes and needs. If you are looking for a classic and elegant watch, opt for a leather or fabric strap. Metal bracelets also offer a touch of sophistication and are perfect for special occasions.
Another option is the silicone bracelet, which is very comfortable and resistant to shocks that I use when I play sports for example.

Sealing

Often written on the back of the watch, the water resistance of a timepiece is expressed in meters or atmospheres (ATMs). You thought that “waterproof 50 meters” allows you to go down to 50 meters under water and well you are wrong. To see more clearly on follow the guide!

  • Waterproof / Water Resistant: If on the back you have no infi and not even the mention “water resistant” then absolutely avoid water.
  • Waterproof 30 meters (3 ATM): It withstands occasional spills. No washing hands, dishes or shower.
  • Waterproof 50 meters (5 ATM): It’s good for the pool but no jumping and diving with it.
  • Waterproof 100 meters (10 ATM): There, everything is possible. Shower, bath and swim in the pool and even snorkeling.
  • Waterproof 200 meters (20 ATM): Everything above, but with scuba diving added. The real one, with bottle!

The budget and the price of the watch

Your budget and the price of the watch are also important factors to consider. There are women’s watches at all price points, ranging from inexpensive watches to high-end models. If style is your primary concern, then perhaps you should consider investing in a top quality watch that will look great and last a long time. If you are looking for a simple and durable watch for everyday use, you can easily find affordable models.

Buying a women’s watch can be a daunting task. To find the perfect watch for your style and budget, take the time to do your research. Consider the different types of movements and straps available, as well as the different styles of watches. Also make sure you stay within your budget.
