The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has simplified the process of cancellation of Deceased Identity Cards (CNICs) to ensure prevention of their misuse.
In view of the difficulties faced in obtaining the death certificate of the deceased and revoking his identity card, NADRA has taken the initiative.
Under the new rules, any close relative of the deceased (parents, spouse, children, brothers, sisters of the deceased and whose entry is in the family records of the deceased) can cancel the CNIC of the deceased person by providing necessary documents. can cross
Necessary or required documents include the original identity card of the deceased or in the absence of original identity card, identity card number, computerized death certificate and burial certificate issued by the Union Council, Cantonment Board or Tehsil Municipal Office.
It should be noted that in case of federalism, no fee is charged for canceling the ID card and the cancellation certificate is provided within 7 days.
To prevent misuse, NADRA will ensure that the original ID card of the deceased is destroyed at the registration centre.
If you are using a SIM issued in the name of a deceased relative, register the death in the concerned local authority, cancel the ID card from NADRA and transfer the mobile SIM to your mobile SIM as per the procedure prescribed by PTA. Transfer to name.
It should be noted that mobile SIMs issued in the name of deceased persons will be blocked by PTA from October 15, 2024 on the instructions of the government.
