The keto diet has been booming since 2016, and market analysts predict its popularity will only continue to grow in this decade. The team at Keto Cycle – a ketogenic diet app – surveyed over 5 million people worldwide to get to the bottom of this trend.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity has nearly tripled worldwide since 1975, leading to many health risks and chronic diseases. That’s why millions of people are adopting a ketogenic diet to better manage their weight and reduce preventable risk of disease.
Keto Cycle surveyed over 5 million people worldwide to better understand this trend. The result: The main reason most choose this diet decide is rapid weight loss followed by an increase in overall health as the second most important motivator.
The survey found that 46% of respondents wanting to try a ketogenic diet have health issues commonly associated with obesity: 20% report high blood pressure, 10% have diabetes, 3% have heart disease, and 1% have cancer. The ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-protein, and high-fat diet.
As soon as the carbohydrate intake is drastically reduced, the metabolism changes in such a way that fats are now used as the main source of energy instead of the usual carbohydrates. This, in turn, causes body fat to melt away – a condition also known as ketosis.
There is now a scientifically proven link between the keto diet and overall improved health. Medical studies have shown that the ketogenic diet can help regulate blood sugar and insulin levels.
Other studies have examined the metabolic benefits of the ketogenic diet in chronic diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and diseases related to insulin resistance. Christine Ellis, Chief Nutritionist at Keto Cycle, explains why the keto diet is so effective at improving health:
Effective health improvement
“Many health problems nowadays result from the modern lifestyle and obesity. There are tremendous health benefits of shedding excess body fat – and the keto diet is one of the most effective diets for losing weight fast.
There is a lot of scientific evidence that patients on a ketogenic or low-carb diet lose weight faster than those on a traditional low-fat or e.g. B. set a Mediterranean diet.”
Christine Ellis adds that many people follow this diet incorrectly by consuming too many of the wrong fats – such as: B. too much bacon or ready meals with a high content of saturated fats. It is important to follow this diet properly in order to get the most benefits from it.
Keto Cycle uses scientific and health data to ensure users receive personalized, balanced and nutritious meal plans to improve their weight, health and well-being in equal measure.
However, the ketogenic diet is not just another fad. According to the current market report, the global market for ketogenic diets is expected to grow from USD 9.59 billion (EUR 8.74 billion) in 2020 to USD 15.60 billion (EUR 14.16 billion) by 2028. North America will take the dominant market share. Likewise, the market in Europe will grow rapidly due to the increasing presence of ketogenic products and leading suppliers.
Market analysts suggest that the growing popularity of the keto diet is due to the increasing need for strategic weight loss programs, the global craze for low-sugar diets, and increasing awareness of the health benefits and effectiveness of the keto diet.
