Every Friday, find, on Le Point.fr, the nutrition chronicle of Professor Boris Hansel, endocrinologist and nutritionist at the Bichat hospital in Paris. He is also the host of the health channel PuMS on YouTube.

If you are going on a trip, I recommend that you adopt some simple nutritional advice. This will prevent you from getting sick while on vacation. First of all, I recommend that you protect yourself once morest the turista, especially if you travel to countries where hygiene is defective.

Turista is traveler’s diarrhea caused by the consumption of food and water contaminated with faeces. It’s better to talk regarding it before you get infected, so here are three practical tips. First, when it comes to the water you drink, opt for bottled water that is capped and opened in front of you.

An alternative is to boil the water for one minute! It is also with this water that I recommend that you clean your fruits and vegetables. Remember that ice cubes are frozen water that can be contaminated. So ice cubes are to be avoided.

The second piece of advice concerns the hygiene of the hands that handle food before it is brought to the mouth. Remember to wash them before eating and, of course, when leaving the toilet. Dry your hands with a clean cloth or in the air, but especially not with an automatic hand dryer! They spread bacteria. The hydroalcoholic gel, everyone knows now, can replace water and soap when you don’t have any.

My third recommendation concerns the dishes. I suggest you opt for hot dishes served piping hot. You can wait for it to cool down a bit. Avoid undercooked or reheated dishes and for food sold on the street, check that the container is still smoking and that it is perfectly cooked!

Excess of spicy dishes

There are other digestive disorders that can ruin your vacation. And it’s related to what you eat or what you live. If you experience burning sensations behind your breastbone, sometimes with a cough that you don’t understand, acid reflux, or jerks waking up, it can happen when you suddenly change your diet.

In this case, it is probably an excess of spicy dishes when you are not used to it, an excess of cooked fats during repeated meals in fast food or even some alcohol abuse. The solution is to go back to foods that you are used to eating without inconvenience.

Finally, we often hear that you have to prepare your intestinal flora with probiotics or prebiotics to boost your immune defenses and fight once morest digestive discomfort. This idea is unfounded. There is better to do to prepare your holidays which I wish you excellent!
