TudoCelular explains to you each step that must be done regarding where to place the expansion, how to correctly install the storage device and, to top it off, how to configure it with the device turned on.

To carry out the experiment, we used the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card, from Western Digital. It has capacity options of 512 GB or 1 TB, in addition to being officially licensed for Xbox, with the Xbox Velocity Architecture feature, which offers performance similar to the internal storage of the Xbox Series X|S. The model is also compatible with Quick Restart, which returns the game from suspension faster.

Where to put the expansion on Xbox?

The additional slot for inserting the external device is located on the back, next to the HDMI output. It is well characterized and has the name “Storage Expansion” right above it, so it can be easily recognized.

Expansion Card Installation

Before proceeding, it is worth having the latest updates for your Xbox already installed. To plug in the WD_BLACK C50, simply remove the protective cover and firmly connect it to the expansion slot.

Because the Western Digital Expansion Card consists of a device plug & playyou will not need to perform any tasks following placing the device in the space dedicated to additional storage.

How to configure?

Once inserted into the slot for the first time, you will be able to turn on the Xbox. When the Expansion Card is installed in the console, the first step is to format the storage device.

The system will display a message for you to select whether you intend to use the card mainly with the console in question, or whether you intend to use it in several video games.

The first option makes it possible to automatically check for software updates. The second disables the verification, which can still be done manually. You can also switch between behaviors using the following path: My games and apps > Manage > Storage devices.

After the installation is complete, you can check the increase in overall storage in the menu My games and apps. The meter, marked “All storage”, is located in the bottom left corner of the screen.
