O WhatsApp allows you to send updates from Status in the form of photos, videos and text messages. More recently, Meta started to allow them to also be sent audio messages — something that is already well used in individual and group chats.

With WhatsApp open, tap the “Updates” tab and the “+” (in the top right, next to “Status”). Select “Text message” and then press and hold the icon represented by a microphone to start recording.
When finished, release your finger; To cancel, swipe it to the left. If you change your mind following saving it, tap the trash can icon.
Once done, tap the button in the top right corner to change the background color and “Status”, in the bottom left corner, to choose who can see the update. When you’re done, tap the blue ball.
