The seventh edition of the VivaTech show in Paris left an important place to the future of sport, and in particular to rugby a few weeks before the World Cup in France. The staff of the Blues and its manager, Fabien Galthié, presented a technological innovation intended to improve the sector of the keys.

Along with artificial intelligence, sport was also a major theme of the seventh edition of VivaTech, the annual innovation meeting in Paris. As the Rugby World Cup approaches (September 8-October 28), the staff of the XV of France presented technological innovations for players in the aisles. Like the augmented touch that allows, thanks to virtual reality and images captured in volumetric 3D, to see an action in motion.

This new tool was co-built with the company Orange by Karim Ghezal, one of the coaches of the France team. “The key is the easiest area (to analyze). It is a period of time where the player has 3-4 seconds to make a decision”, he recalls at the microphone of Europe 1, adding that this technology “will affect other gaming systems”. For this coach of the Blues, “VivaTech is a start, a step forward in what will be done tomorrow in the future”.

Advance players without physically tiring them out

Rugby matches are sometimes won on details. This is why Fabien Galthié, the coach of the XV of France, does not intend to leave anything to chance. “We identified a very particular area which is the conquest phase, the touch, where we might continue to train by simulating phases of play”, says the general manager. For him, this game sector “is the simplest to work with in technology, but it is one of the most complex where matches are lost and also won”.

This technology allows players to progress without physically tiring them because chaining key sequences is impactful for the knees in particular. This allows injured players to stay in the performance dynamic established within the Blues.
