How the top candidates spend election Sunday

After voting during the morning, most people spend the time with their families until the first projections are published. In the afternoon, all of the top list leaders gather in parliament, where the national media center is set up. Afterwards, there are more or less exuberant celebrations at election parties, depending on the outcome.

Also Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will not vote by postal vote, but will cast his vote at 11:30 a.m. at the polling station in the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna-Landstrasse.

Family time and election parties

Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) votes beforehand at 10 a.m. in Vienna-Hietzing. Afterwards he wants to spend time with his family. In the afternoon, the ÖVP boss will meet with his team and follow the projections together from 5 p.m. The People’s Party’s election party is planned for the evening at the party headquarters on Lichtenfelsgasse.

SPÖ Chief Andreas Babler is initially out as mayor on Sunday. As head of the municipal electoral authority, he visits the polling stations in his municipality of Traiskirchen and thanks the election assessors. At 11 a.m. he goes to vote himself and then has lunch with his family at the inn. Afterwards, Babler is planning a visit to his parents and, if it’s possible, a walk with the dog before the trip to Vienna. The red election party will then take place in the evening at the Folklore Museum in Vienna-Josefstadt.

Not far from there, the blue election celebration will take place at the same time in the Stiegl outpatient clinic in the Old General Hospital in Vienna-Alsergrund. FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl wants to go running in the morning and then have lunch at home with his family. The Freedom Party’s top candidate will cast his vote in his home community of Purkersdorf at around 2:30 p.m. In the afternoon, Kickl and his team will follow the first projections in the office in Vienna.

Green Party leader Werner Kogler is planning to have breakfast with his family in Graz on Sunday before he plans to vote in the Styrian capital. Afterwards, a walk in the countryside is planned, then Kogler sets off for Vienna. The Green election celebration will take place again at the Metropol in Vienna-Hernals.

Neos boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger will also spend most of the day with her family. Meinl-Reisinger will cast her vote at 11 a.m. in Vienna-Alsergrund. She will also follow the first projection with family and friends before it goes to the media center in Parliament. The Neos end the election evening in the MAK on Stubenring.

The beer party leader goes to the small parties Dominik Wlazny the quietest day. His plan after voting around 10 a.m. in Simmering is “do nothing, hang out” until he goes to the election party at Donaubräu in Vienna-Donaustadt in the afternoon.

The KPÖ top candidate already has more of a program Tobias Schweiger. At 8:30 a.m. he goes to vote in his home district of Vienna-Leopoldstadt. Schweiger spends the time until the afternoon in the communists’ free kitchen in Ottakring. The 34-year-old will then follow the first projections at the communist election celebration at the Badeschiff in the Danube Canal.

Madeleine Petrovicfounder of the list of the same name, casts her vote at 11 a.m. in her hometown of Gloggnitz in Lower Austria. Afterwards, the President of Tierschutz Austria would like to be at the animal shelter in Vienna. The Petrovic list election party is planned at the party headquarters in Vienna-Alsergrund.

Fayad Mullahead of the Wandel party, which is NOT on the ballot as a list, will go to vote at 10 a.m. at Schlesingerplatz. Mulla spends the afternoon and evening with his team in the party office. No public election party is planned.
