Morocco, Makzen, Rif, Hirak, repression,
A video recorded in a Moroccan police bus in Imzouren reveals the racism of Moroccan police officers in the Rif.
In the video, three young Rifians are heard pleading with the officers to release them. “It’s an injustice”, “I didn’t do anything, chief”, “I never went to a police station” and “I went to get a sandwich” say the young rifains, who were visibly afraid of what waiting for them at the police station.
However, the Moroccan agents do not derogate from the pleading. According to the Moroccan agents, they will “educate the Rifains” because they “want to be intelligent”. The agents accuse the three Rifains of having insulted the Allaouit monarch Mohamed 6.
‘Now say ‘Long live the Rif’, said a Moroccan agent to the young Rifians. They replied with ‘long live the king’ in the hope that they would be freed.
In recent days, Morocco has sent hundreds of additional (secret) agents to the province which has been militarized since the Moroccan massacre of the Rifains in 1958/1959. The number of checkpoints has increased and officers are scattered on almost every street. Random passers-by are asked to show ID and intimidated.
Yesterday, the home of ex-political prisoner El Fahili was also searched at six o’clock in the morning with a great show of force. The ex-political prisoner’s mother and other relatives were terrified. The former prisoner of the Riffian popular movement was not at home himself.
