Marina and Aleksey Maksimenko, a married couple from Kursk, are coming to Sochi for the second time this summer, for the first time in June they decided to stay in the Lazarevsky district with friends in Zubovaya Shchel. The next day following arrival, or rather, the next night, 85 millimeters of rain fell there.
– We were sleeping, the owners ran into the room, shouting that we urgently need to evacuate. We mightn’t understand anything, think it was raining, but following a few minutes the water went into our room, began to arrive very quickly, and then we were seriously scared. They grabbed things and ran to the neighbors on the second floor. There, in the dark, they turned off the light, waited until everything was over, – says Marina. Previously, they had never encountered southern cataclysms and did not think that the river, which they forded in hot weather, instantly turned into a seething stream that carried away cars. Then they came to rest by train. They left on it the next day, because the room they rented turned out to be uninhabitable. And they didn’t look for anything else. We decided to return home from sin, and postpone the vacation. And they moved it to July 20, this time they settled in Rachmaninov Lane in the center of Sochi, with distant relatives. They decided that the projectile did not hit the same funnel twice, but they turned out to be wrong.
