Vienna (OTS) –

Many brands advertise regionality – with the best quality “Made in Austria” for customers. But what is actually behind the red-white-red branding? How much Austrian connection do these companies have? On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 9:05 p.m., ORF 1 and ORF ON will be taking a closer look at some “typically Austrian” companies in the new documentary “Mozartkugel, Palmers and Co. – how Austrian are our brands really?” by Thomas Grusch . At 9:55 p.m. the question “Organic – the solution for everything?” is the focus of a documentary by Liza Enzinger.

“Mozartkugel, Palmers and Co. – how Austrian are our brands really?” (9:05 p.m.)

Brands such as Mozartkugel, Palmers and Elektra Bregenz are considered “typically Austrian” both here and worldwide. But how much Austria is actually in it? The licensing rights to the Mozartkugel belong to the US company Mondelez, around half of Palmers products are manufactured in Asia, and Elektra Bregenz has more to do with Turkey than with the country. Experts repeatedly warn of possible consumer deception. So do you just pay for the image? The examples illustrate how much leeway companies have to market their products as domestic. “Organic – the solution for everything?” (9:55 p.m.)

Organic really seems to be the solution for everything – if you believe the manufacturers’ advertising campaigns. Organic food should not only be free of harmful substances and healthy, it should also be ecological and climate-neutral. So save the world with food? What is actually behind the slogans like “Organic = climate protection with food” from Bio Austria? What minimum legal requirements are associated with the term “organic”? And what does the mass-used “organic” label mean for the Austrian food market?
