How Michael Jackson made his skin lighter

One of the most famous artists of this century has been Michael Jackson, who caused controversy for different reasons throughout his career.

One of these was his radical change in skin tone, which as a young man was dark and towards the end of his life had lightened impressively. Although the singer always attributed this change to a skin disease, there are many theories, including that Jackson decided to whiten his skin to “look like another ethnicity”.

How did Michael Jackson lighten his skin?

According to the singer, he suffered from a genetic disease called “Vitiligo” that causes loss of pigmentation in different parts of the body. Over time, more skin turns completely white.

Although it is known that Michael Jr and Paris Jackson did not inherit this same skin condition, it was a few years ago that Latoya Jackson mentioned that Prince has shown signs of vitiligo just like his father. Fortunately, there are now different treatments that prevent the disease from getting worse and advancing.

Other theories

Sources have assured that the singer used topical products to turn white, as he did not feel safe with dark skin. However, these rumors have never been confirmed or denied by his relatives.

One of Michael Jackson’s doctors, Conrad Murray, assured in 2016 that the singer had decided to change his skin color to “erase the memory of his father’s abuse.”

According to Murray, Jackson underwent several surgeries to look like “a Nordic athlete” because he wanted to forget regarding the abuse he experienced at the hands of his father, who never accepted his African-American features.
