Spanish Super Cup – 2011. Barcelona – Real Madrid – 3: 2

August 17, 2011.
“Barcelona” – “Real” – 3:2 (2:1).

Goals: Iniesta, 15 — 1:0, Ronaldo, 20 — 1:1, Messi, 44 — 2:1, Benzema, 82 — 2:2, Messi, 88 — 3:2.

In the 2010s, two clubs fought for the victory in the Spanish Super Cup, and not four, as now. The teams played two matches (home and away), and the winner on the sum of two meetings took the trophy. The first game in Madrid did not reveal a winner – 2: 2 (one of the goals at Barca was scored by Messi). Three days later, the teams met at the Camp Nou and made a real thriller.

First, Messi brought Iniesta one on one with the goalkeeper, and Andres gently threw the ball over Casillas. True, it took the guests only five minutes to respond. Benzema picked up the ball following a corner and shot towards the goal, and Ronaldo equalized with an elegant movement. Nevertheless, Barça left the leader for the break. Pique gave a chic heel pass to Messi, and Leo easily left two opponents and mockingly threw the ball over the goalkeeper who threw himself at his feet. The last person to try to stop the Argentine was Ronaldo. Cristiano did not have time for his opponent, but he effectively drove across the lawn on his knees, which strengthened the impression of the episode.

“Real” bounced back in the end – Benzema took advantage of the confusion in the opponent’s penalty area and shot right into the corner. When it seemed that overtime might not be avoided, Messi decided everything. The Catalans played a nice combination, Leo closed Adriano’s cross in the fall and brought the trophy to Barcelona. Casillas might only sympathize.
