How long will the internet be slow in the country? PTA told – Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has attributed the slowdown in the internet to a fault in two submarine cables. The PTA says internet services across the country are expected to remain sluggish until “early October”.

It is to be noted that the fault in SMW4 submarine cable is likely to be fixed by early October 2024 while submarine cable AAE1 has been repaired.

PTA officials say that the repair of the submarine cable AAE1 will improve the current internet situation.

Internet expert Doug Midori supported the PTA’s claim regarding the fault in the submarine cables, saying that the reduction in internet capacity for Pakistan was due to the fault in the submarine cables.

In his message on X, he said, ‘We can see that PTCL’s transit to TMnet, NTT and Luman was cut off as a result of SMW-4 failure on June 17. PTCL has recently regained transit from Luman, but these losses will result in reduced capacity in Pakistan’.
