how long does it last and where do you exceed 40 degrees –

Italians must prepare for “a new, intense heat wave, which will hit Italy and much of central Europe between tomorrow, Friday 9 August and the middle of next week”. The forecast is by Giulio Betti, meteorologist, who on his X account, the former Twitter, explains that “in our country it should last 6-7 days and be, at least initially, more intense in the center-north. At the height of the heat wave, between Sunday and Tuesday, maximum temperatures are expected between 35 and 38 °C in the Po Valley and between 37 and 40 °C in the internal peninsular areas and in the Sardinian hinterland. Slightly more pleasant values in the extreme southern regions. Minimum temperatures are unlikely to fall below 20 °C in the plains, on the coasts and in the hills. Sultry in the Po Valley, also due to previous rains, and on the coastal areas. Northern plains, Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio are the areas that initially recorded the greatest discomfort”.

Shocking temperatures, what awaits us until mid-August: the hot regions

“Between Wednesday and Thursday – the weather expert highlights in his weather forecast – the rotation of the winds from the southern quadrants should move the maximums to the South and the Adriatic regions with values even above 40 °C. Temperatures slightly decreasing, but still high, in the North and on the medium-high Tyrrhenian side, with the exception of Romagna. Apart from a modest drop in the baric field expected between 14 and 15 August, temperatures will remain above average at least until 18-19 August”. Betti closes his analysis with the climate alarm: “The freezing level will remain almost constantly above 4000 metres, even in the Alps with a peak on Sunday when it could touch 5000 metres. Not good news for the glaciers and the high-altitude permafrost”.
