[이코노미스트 이혜리 기자] The story of a Chinese tourist who lost a bag containing 5 million won in cash while on a trip to Korea, and a citizen who found it and returned it to the police, is known.

According to the police on the 19th, Chinese tourist A lost a bag containing 5 million won in cash at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 15th. The bag contained 5 million won in cash and two credit cards.

Kim Bok-hyang (43), who visited DDP on business at the time, found the bag on the stairs of Design Plaza at 11:30 the same night and reported it to the nearby Seoul Central Police Station, Gwanghui District. In a media interview, Mr. Kim said, “I wanted to show the spirit of reporting by Koreans.” I wanted to show the Chinese that Korea’s reporting system is faster than any other country.”

Mr. A went to the Dongdaemun Center of the Seoul Tourism Police Department and asked for help after about 11 hours of the loss. The police couldn’t find the bag at the scene, but they connected to ‘Lost 112’, a police lost and found system, and confirmed that the bag was registered as a lost item. The bag, which had lost its owner, was returned to Mr. A in about 50 minutes after the report of the loss was received.

In response, Mr. A said to the police, “If it were in our country (China), it would have been lost, but (Korea) has a great sense of citizenship.”
