US President Joe Biden has experienced an improvement in his symptoms following being diagnosed with covid-19The information was released by the president’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, in a letter distributed by the White House on July 19.
“His dry cough and hoarseness continue to be his main symptoms, but have improved significantly since yesterday,” the doctor said in the letter.
Biden is currently in isolation at his home in Delaware following testing positive for Covid-19 on July 17 while campaigning in Nevada, a key state for the November election.
In his letter, the doctor explained that Biden was given a fourth dose of the antiviral drug Paxlovid, used to combat the symptoms of Covid-19. The president began the treatment on July 17.
According to the doctor, Biden’s pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature remain “absolutely normal.”
According to Dr. O’Connor, the US president’s lungs remain clear and blood tests have been performed which have yielded normal results, ruling out any type of anemia or evidence of bacterial infection.
The specialist explained that on July 18, Biden underwent a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to confirm whether he had the virus and said that it has not yet been identified which variant of the virus the president suffers from.
Biden announced that he will return to his campaign activities
For his part, Joe Biden himself took the opportunity to release a statement in which he said he would resume his campaign activities next week. “I look forward to returning to the campaign trail next week,” he wrote in the document released by the Democratic Party campaign on July 19.
The president criticized the speech given by Republican Party candidate Donald Trump. “Donald Trump’s dark vision for the future is not who we are as Americans. Together, as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box,” Biden said in the statement.
The president continued his criticism of Trump in the statement, saying the Republican leader’s speech “focused on his own grievances” and did not put forward any plans to unite the country or improve the lives of working people.
Adding to Biden’s health situation are reports that have emerged in recent days that several Democratic Party leaders are allegedly pressuring the US president to decline his re-election bid.
Barack Obama’s position
The newspaper The Washington Post On July 18, former US President Barack Obama (2009-2017) reportedly told those close to him that current President Joe Biden must “seriously reconsider” the future of his candidacy.
According to the capital newspaper, Obama believes that Biden’s chances of victory “have been considerably reduced.”
EFE news agency reported that six Democrats in Congress have called on President Biden to end his re-election campaign and “pass the baton” so that a younger leader can face former President Donald Trump.
One of those who called for Biden’s withdrawal was Illinois Rep. Sean Casten, who in an opinion column in the newspaper Chicago Tribune He said that although it “broke his heart to say it,” he had to declare that the president “is no longer up to the task.”
